Reducing High Blood Pressure With Appropriate Medications Will Help Prevent Complications.

The bleeding can cause scarring of the eye and damage vision. If a blood vessel has leaked into the vitreous humour and scarring has occurred, your doctor may advise you to have a vitrectomy. Diabetic eye disease also includes cataract and glaucoma: Cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens. Patients on certain medications should have more frequent eye exams.  The pressure pinches the blood vessels that carry blood to the retina and optic nerve. These conditions include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular enema DBE, cataract, and glaucoma. Reducing high blood pressure with appropriate medications will help prevent complications. If so, discontinuing medication will stop, but not reverse, any damage.

Nonproliferative retinopathy can move through three stages mild, moderate, and severe, as more and more blood vessels become blocked. When fluid from blood vessels leaks into the macula, it can swell making vision blurry. The bleeding causes local irritation and scarring.
